The more important question is who they record the next album with (I assume that won't be Axl). But I'll still keep my ticket and go see them when they make-up the Atlanta show.
So the current live band has two original members (Cliff's been there over 40 years!), the "original" drummer for most of the 90's babies reading this thread, and a family member who's subbed live for Malcolm for years. And for all of Malcolm's essential songwriting contributions, it's not like his actual live playing is all that distinctive. He was their drummer all through the 1990's "Thunderstruck"-era, which was their greatest period of success and relevancy since "Back In Black". Moreover, the drummer that have now (Chris Slade) isn't exactly an unknown fresh face. The only thing that's changed over the past 36 years has been the drummer, and Malcolm's nephew sometimes subbing in when Mal's too drunk to play. People like to make smarmy jokes about all the lineup changes in the band's history, but ignore the fact that most of those changes had occurred by 1980. "Every time I hear them, those songs still sound fresh. "I was working with the lads for the first time, so for me, it was just fantastic," Johnson adds.
